This beautiful 1950's anodized aluminum pitcher with ice guard and three tumbler cups were part of the patio and outdoor dining craze of the 1950's and-60's. After the frugality of wartime living and WW2 food rationing, the postwar home cooks invested in grills and other accessories for their suburban backyards.
What exactly is anodized aluminum? Anodizing uses an acid to create a corrosion and wear resistant layer on top of the metal. The process of anodizing also changes the crystal structure near the surface of the aluminum, which allows them to dye the metal a bright color.
Can I put the pitcher and glasses in the dishwasher? It's best not to. Aluminum is prone to corrosion when exposed to certain substances, such as highly alkaline or acidic cleaning agents. These cleaning agents are commonly found in dishwasher detergents. Over time, the aluminum surface may develop discoloration, pits and stains, compromising its aesthetic appeal.
The only flaws I discovered were some scuff marks on the bottom of the pitcher and none of the items are branded. They come from a smoke free home.
