1960's Vintage MCM Syroco Gold Peacock Pheasant Figurine MCM Regency Sculpture

This wonderful 1960's Syroco Gold Peacock Pheasant Regency Sculpture is in perfect condition, with no flaws discovered.

But who is Syroco?

"The Syracuse Ornamental Company, or Syroco, was the brainchild of Adolph Holstein, a woodcarver who emigrated from Warsaw, Poland, to the United States in 1889. Holstein needing to meet the demands for his growing company, mixed wood shavings and flour with other bindings for strength and injected the gooey pulp into compression molds made from his original carvings. Known as Syroco Wood, the “carved” reliefs had flat backs. They were used to decorate walls, furniture, and funeral caskets. By the 1960s, the company injected polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polystyrene into “modern” design molds and the pieces looked like wood, yet they were light and easy to sand or paint. In the 1950s, the company added a gilded process called "Metalgold" making the plastic pieces look like real shimmering gold."

Syroco got a push in 1957 when Mary Crowley began her Home Interiors and Gifts Company and sold home accents, including Syroco, to customers through home parties and Syroco soon became all the rage among suburban housewives."

The bird is 12-1/2 inches long, 9-inches tall (when measured from the feather on top of his head) and comes from a smoke free home.
