1961 Vintage MCM Madame Alexander Chatter Box Doll

This 23-inch-tall doll is in wonderful shape and is wearing her original socks and shoes, but might not be wearing her original dress, as it does not contain the Madame Alexander tag. The bottom of her right shoe is missing, and the doll does not "Chatter", as her batteries have eroded inside of her, but the rest of her mechanics appear to be intact. If you look closely at the photo of her open back panel, you can see the batteries at the bottom, under the wires,

The doll was only available for one year and what makes her unique is that she has a battery powered phonograph in her body cavity. To make the doll talk, you push the button in her chest, which disengages the record from the stylus, allowing the stylus to reset it to its starting position, so that the spoken phrases (only a few are shown) can be repeated.

  • Do you like me?
  • Let's go to the park.
  • I like to ride on the carousel.
  • Who is coming to our tea party?

The removable band, strapped around Chatterbox's chest, sits over the groove in the dolls start button and keeps the button depressed, releasing the stylus from contact with the record - thereby preventing damage to the record through the potentially rough handling during shipping or play.

Another little added bit of information about the doll, is that she will not chatter when laying down, as she was designed to stop chattering when laid down for a nap, like a real baby.

The doll comes from a smoke free home.
